thalabus Whitepaper Series
Turning Documents into Trusted Decisions with AI
Reading the map
The intended conceptual flow is:
Documents → Extraction & Translation → Knowledge & Similarity → Evidence-Grounded Reasoning → Case Analysis → Recommendation → Human Decision
The map is read top-to-bottom, one layer at a time. Every box on the diagram is a building block of the thalabus platform, numbered with the same badge shown here. None of these building blocks have a published whitepaper yet; the ones marked Whitepaper planned below are the building blocks we intend to document as standalone whitepapers first. The rest are still real, shipping building blocks — they simply won't get a dedicated whitepaper for a long time.
| Nr | Text | Whitepaper status |
|---|---|---|
| Layer 4 — Decision Intelligence & Action (Outcomes: Insights, Evidence, Risks, Open Questions, Recommendations, Next Best Action) | ||
| 16 | From Case Documents to Decisions — end-to-end case analysis spanning OCR and transcription, classification, language identification, segmentation, entity/fact/event extraction, contradiction detection, semantic indexing, knowledge-graph construction, domain and similar-case retrieval, evidence evaluation, reasoning and independent verification. Along the way the case itself becomes a structured computational object — a structured case record built from extracted facts, knowledge and evidence — that this pipeline turns into a decision-ready package with synthesis, recommendations, open questions and next steps. | Whitepaper planned |
| 17 | Uncertainty, Contradictions & Risks — detects gaps, conflicting claims, risks and missing evidence without silently choosing one account. It identifies the relevant sources and dates, assigns confidence, proposes possible explanations and states what clarification or additional evidence is required. | Whitepaper planned |
| 18 | Next Best Action & Recommendations — turns analysis into actionable advice: prioritized tasks and concrete decision support for the case handler, not just a summary of findings. | |
| 19 | Human-in-the-Loop AI — keeps every recommendation explainable and auditable, with human oversight built into the key decision points rather than bolted on afterwards. | |
| Layer 3 — Knowledge, Reasoning & Evidence (Outcomes: Understanding, Evidence, Similarity, Applicable Knowledge) | ||
| 12 | Similar Cases Discovery — measures similarity between complete cases rather than merely between documents: it first constructs a structured representation of the current case, then finds cases similar to that case rather than documents similar to these documents. It combines lexical/BM25 search, embeddings, cross-encoder reranking, metadata and entity matching, temporal constraints, knowledge-graph relationships, domain-specific similarity and structured case features so precedent and past outcomes can inform the current case. | Whitepaper planned |
| 13 | Knowledge Graph + RAG — multidisciplinary retrieval that goes beyond plain vector search: graph-based, vector, indexed, combinatorial (Boolean), prompt augmentation and hybrid RAG, connecting entities, relationships, ontologies and domain knowledge. | Whitepaper planned |
| 14 | Domain Knowledge Integration — imports knowledge bases, documents and domain expertise into the reasoning process: laws, regulations, precedents, prior rulings, country- or organization-specific rules, and ontology lexicons in multiple languages. | |
| 15 | Evidence-Grounded Reasoning — deep reasoning that discovers supporting evidence and grounds every conclusion in traceable sources, facts and links. It distinguishes evidence (what do we know?) from reasoning (what follows from what we know?), tracing an explicit source → evidence → claim → inference → conclusion chain and recording the source and confidence for each claim so the system can explain exactly why it believes something. | Whitepaper planned |
| Layer 2 — Document Understanding & Knowledge Extraction (Outcomes: Extract, Parse, Translate, Structure) | ||
| 9 | AI Document Intelligence — perception and ingestion: what is in this document? OCR, handwriting recognition, layout analysis, document structure, classification, speech/audio transcription and visual content. | |
| 10 | Trustworthy AI Transcription & Translation — linguistic transformation: how do we reliably transform it into another linguistic representation? Secure, sovereign transcription and translation using world-class models. Layout-aware blocks are transcribed or translated in parallel, reconciled in context and reconstructed in the original layout; token/span confidence, terminology consistency, secondary-model verification, back-translation and semantic comparison expose uncertainty instead of hiding it. | Whitepaper planned |
| 11 | Facts, Entities, Events & Relationships — extracts structured knowledge from unstructured text: people, places, events, statements and timelines, including their relationships to each other. | Whitepaper planned |
| Foundation — AI Engineering & Platform (Outcomes: Act, Route, Generate, Evaluate) | ||
| Core platform engineering that every layer above silently depends on: | ||
| 1 | Security, Privacy & Sovereignty — encryption, access control and audit, so sensitive case data never leaves a trusted boundary. | |
| 2 | Data & Storage — graph database, vector database and object storage, chosen per the shape of the data they hold. | |
| 3 | Compute & Deployment — GPUs, containers and a hybrid edge/cloud deployment model that scales with demand. | |
| 4 | Observability & Governance — logging, monitoring and compliance, giving visibility into what the system did and why. | |
| Building blocks that make the AI itself reliable and usable: | ||
| 5 | AI Orchestration: Tools, Skills & MCP — connects models through tools, skills and MCP to search, databases, knowledge graphs, Python, APIs, document-processing services, external services and enterprise systems, orchestrating multi-step workflows such as classify → extract → retrieve → rerank → reason → verify → regenerate → human review. The LLM becomes the reasoning component inside an orchestrated application that can act, not just answer. | |
| 6 | Model-Agnostic Architecture & Intelligent Routing — the application architecture is independent of any particular foundation model: it selects the right local, private-cloud or external-cloud model for each operation based on data sensitivity, required capability, latency, cost, GPU availability, context size, language, reasoning needs, regulation and encryption requirements. | |
| 7 | de2generator: Reliable Long-Form Generation — addresses the mismatch between sequential autoregressive generation and hierarchical enterprise output. It detects token drift, repetition, context degradation and structural corruption in JSON/XML/HTML, limits error propagation, and decouples planning, decomposition, parallel generation, checkpointing, verification and continuation so long-form output remains coherent and recoverable. | Whitepaper planned |
| 8 | Evaluating Enterprise AI — proves reliability across retrieval (Recall@K, nDCG), reranking (MRR), factuality, citation precision, completeness, contradiction detection, translation quality, confidence calibration, structural validity, agent task completion, privacy exposure, cost per case and p50/p95 latency. | |
The Foundation is deliberately placed as a supporting foundation: it underpins every layer above but does not interrupt the business-oriented narrative of the map.
